Introduction: A good writer has his own style of writing which makes him different to other writers.Capote as a good writer used diction, tone, and organization to create his style In Cold Blood. Capote use of these elements help the reader understand his view of Holcomb,Kansas. Capote views Holcomb as a simple, lonely town that is close to being insignificant, he makes you feel this by the way he describes the places in the town.
Body Paragraph: Throughout the entire passage diction is visible, as the reader one can tell he is being careful about which word to use correctly. In the first paragraph he mentions that Holcomb is avery quiet, lonesome place, Capote then goes to say "other Kansans call "out there." This shows that he wants people to see he isn't the only one that feels Holcomb town is simple. In the second paragraphhe says, " Not that there is much to see- simply an aimless congregation of building dividedin the center by the mainline tracks if the Santa Fe Railroad."This example has use of good vocabulary such as aimless and congregration which show Capote wants the reader to understand that there is not much to see and its basically a waste to go visit, unless you enjoy looking at the countryside. When you read more into the second paragraph it start to seem as if he wants you to see that the town is not cared much y it people. This is seen how he says " a stark old stucco structure...supports an electric sign-Dance-but the dancing has ceased and the advertisement has been dark for several years." It shows how even the town people don't see much point in trying to better the town because they know nobody truly wants to visit. Another example of his diction is " the one flaking gold on a dirty window- HOLCOMB BANK... bank closed in 1933." Capote used good descriptive words to show how careless the people are about the way they protray their town.
In the short excerpt from In Cold Blood it seems the tone Capote is trying to give to the reader is reflective because through the passage he is analyzing all the bad characteristics about Holcomb village.Capote is reflecting on how the people don't try improving
